dSPACE is expanding its AURELION software platform for sensor simulation and 3D visualization with a solution for the development and validation of driver monitoring systems (DMS). AURELION Driver Monitoring enables the simulation of drivers and infrared cameras within a virtual vehicle environment. With this solution, dSPACE addresses the increasing requirements for DMS, including those set by Euro NCAP and the EU General Safety Regulation (GSR).
The solution combines animated 3D driver models with a physics-based simulation of infrared cameras. This allows typical DMS functions—such as the detection of gaze direction, attention, and drowsiness—to be studied and validated under reproducible conditions. The simulation can model different driver and camera configurations as well as various driving situations and environmental conditions. This also includes varying lighting conditions, which play a crucial role for camera-based monitoring systems. AURELION Driver Monitoring supports common near-infrared (NIR) sensor concepts.
Developers can test DMS functions early in the development process and cover a larger number of defined scenarios. This complements testing with real vehicles and sensors and can reduce the effort required for reproducible tests, particularly when validating safety-critical functions. (oe)
