CARIAD and the CARIZON joint venture are driving the development of AI-based systems for Level 3 automated driving for the Volkswagen Group’s brands in China. As CARIAD CEO Peter Bosch announced, the Level 3 functions are to be developed entirely within the joint venture. This effort is based on an expanded collaboration with the Chinese AI company Horizon Robotics. CARIZON will gain access to its partner’s AI foundation models and combine them with its own driving platform, the C7H system-on-chip (SoC), and the GAIA World Model data platform. Together, these components are intended to form a comprehensive technological foundation for Level 3—and, in the future, Level 4—automated driving functions. The software will be closely integrated with the China Electronic Architecture (CEA) developed by CARIAD. The introduction of the first Level 3 functions is scheduled for the second half of next year. At the same time, the L2++ ADAS solution developed by CARIZON has reached production readiness.
