The international research center IMEC has launched an ambitious project to establish chiplet technology in the automotive industry. Together with leading companies such as ARM, ASE, BMW, Bosch, Cadence, Siemens, SiliconAuto, Synopsys, Tenstorrent and Valeo, IMEC is working to meet the specific performance, safety and cost requirements of the automotive industry.
The market potential for chiplets in the automotive industry is enormous. The increasing complexity of vehicles, particularly due to the introduction of autonomous driving systems and networked vehicles, requires powerful and flexible computer architectures. Chiplets offer an ideal solution here, as they enable a high degree of flexibility, scalability and adaptability. However, the introduction of chiplets in the automotive industry is associated with a number of challenges. These include the high demands on reliability and longevity as well as the need for uniform standards.
IMEC’s Automotive Chiplet Program aims to address these challenges and support the automotive industry in its transition to chiplet-based systems. The program promotes the development of standards, tools and design methods that are specifically tailored to the needs of the automotive industry. (oe)
