The ever-increasing amount of software in vehicles places high demands on flashing in production – especially because every work step is time-critical. It is expected that luxury vehicles could contain up to 1000 million lines of code by 2030. This means that around 50 GB of data would have to be transferred during a flash process. This represents a major challenge for vehicle production and software updates, both technically and logistically. The five-page technical article by Markus Steffelbauer, Head of Product Management at Softing Automotive, published in ATZelektronik (issue 10/2024), explains how fast and reliable flash programming of large amounts of data can be integrated into the production process. The solution combines modern programming technology with a diagnostic system and uses the high-speed wireless connection of a smart device together with the classic diagnostic functions of a high-performance vehicle interface (VCI).
