Tesla has unveiled its robot cab „Cybercab“ in a Hollywood studio. However, fans of the electric car manufacturer will have to wait until at least 2026 before they can buy it. In a spectacular presentation at the Warner Bros. studio in Hollywood, CEO Elon Musk unveiled the Cybercab, a fully electric, self-driving vehicle without a steering wheel or pedals. Musk promised that the vehicle will be available as early as 2026 for less than 30,000 US dollars, heralding a new era of autonomous driving.

In addition to the Cybercab, Tesla also presented a self-driving minibus that can carry up to 20 passengers. The Optimus humanoid robots were also presented, demonstrating the advances in robotics.

A central part of the presentation was the introduction of the latest developments in Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology. Musk announced that the FSD software will be available in the Model 3 and Model Y in Texas and California next year. In the long term, FSD should make it possible for vehicles to drive completely autonomously without the intervention of a human driver. However, there are also critical voices that question the reliability of FSD technology. Tests to date have shown that the software does not yet work flawlessly in all situations. Experts are also raising questions about the safety and regulation of autonomous vehicles. Even a vehicle without wing mirrors or corresponding cameras, without a steering wheel and pedals, such as the Cybercab, is currently unlikely to be approved for use on public roads in either the USA or Europe.

However, Tesla’s presentation will once again fuel the debate about the future of mobility. While the company paints an optimistic vision of an autonomous future, it remains to be seen how quickly and successfully this vision can be implemented in reality. (oe)
