The Volkswagen Group is working with Valeo and Mobileye to upgrade the advanced driver assistance systems to up to Level 2+ (advanced semi-automated driving) in its upcoming vehicle range based on the MQB platform. This cooperation, which will be implemented over the next few years, will increase safety and driving comfort in high-volume vehicles and meet both customer expectations and regulatory requirements. At the same time, Volkswagen wants to streamline purchasing processes, reduce complexity and improve efficiency.
In addition to hands-free driving under certain conditions on approved highway sections, the system will offer functions such as traffic jam assist, hazard detection, parking assist, driver monitoring and a 360-degree emergency assist. Future-oriented technologies such as augmented reality displays are also planned.
The new system has a 360-degree ring of several cameras and radar sensors as well as software-controlled functions. This enables hands-free driving on approved roads, intelligent parking and improved safety for vehicle occupants and pedestrians.
Valeo supplies high-performance ECUs, sensors and parking solutions, while Mobileye provides its Surround ADAS platform, which includes the EyeQ 6 High processor and mapping technologies. For the first time, these components are integrated into a single system, replacing multiple ECUs with one centralized unit. This increases efficiency and system performance and enables over-the-air updates to adapt to changing safety standards. (jr)
