ZF was one of the first companies in Germany to receive approval from the German Federal Motor Transport Authority to test vehicles at SAE Level 4. The approval covers electrified, highly automated shuttles equipped with autonomous driving technology from ZF. These vehicles will be tested in Friedrichshafen and Mannheim as part of the „Real-world laboratory for automated bus operation in urban and rural public transport“ (RABus) project. ZF Mobility Solutions is working together with various consortium partners. The approval also enables operation with test persons, which will begin on October 28.
For the RABus project, ZF Mobility Solutions, together with eVersum, has equipped the shuttles with state-of-the-art ZF technology and developed them specifically for use in mixed traffic. „Now that the approval process has been completed, testing of the automated shuttles in local public transport can begin,“ said Richard Damm, President of the Federal Motor Transport Authority. „This is an important step towards the development and introduction of autonomous driving technologies in Germany.“ (oe)
