Valeo and MAHLE are working together on the development of magnet-free electric motors (electrically excited synchronous machines) for high-end vehicles. Having already successfully developed a similar technology for a European car manufacturer, they are now expanding their offering to include more powerful vehicles.
The aim of the collaboration is to develop a new, magnet-free electric axle for electric vehicles that will achieve outputs of 220 to 350 kW. Valeo is contributing its expertise in the manufacture of electric motors and efficient inverters, while MAHLE is contributing magnet-free rotors and its special MAHLE Contactless Transmitter (MCT) technology. The two companies are also working on an innovative cooling system. The first prototypes are to be tested by the end of 2024. (oe)
