Nuclei System Technology and Lauterbach have announced the successful implementation and validation of the RISC-V Data Trace feature. According to the companies, this is the world’s first implementation of data tracing in accordance with the RISC-V E-Trace V2.0 standard at the CPU IP level. The solution is designed to facilitate the verification of complex embedded systems and expand the potential applications of the open RISC-V processor architecture, particularly in safety-critical applications.
The Data Trace function records a processor’s memory accesses—including addresses and data values—in real time. This enables the analysis of software bugs that are difficult to reproduce, the optimization of memory accesses, and detailed investigations of system behavior. The new feature is fully integrated into Lauterbach’s TRACE32 toolchain. In addition to classic load and store instructions, the implementation also supports Atomic Memory Operations (AMO) and Control and Status Register (CSR) instructions. This enables detailed analysis of data flows and synchronization mechanisms even in complex multicore systems. (oe)
