Microchip Technology has introduced a new AI-supported coding assistant to make software development and debugging for Microchip products much easier. The MPLAB AI Coding Assistant is available as a free add-on for Microsoft Visual Studio Code (VS Code) and combines Microchip’s AI-powered real-time support with the open source coding assistant Continue.
The Microchip chatbot provides an interactive chat feature that allows developers to review and optimize code directly in the sidebar. This real-time support enables customized help and deeper insights into Microchip-specific products, with the chatbot being continuously updated. Other features include advanced auto-completion for simplified coding, an editing function and error detection for efficient code adjustments within the current file. The tool also provides direct access to searchable Microchip documentation within the IDE. Unlike most other coding wizards on the market, the sidebar chat feature can provide block diagrams directly in the VS Code interface, not just text responses. This capability, combined with easy access to a library of documentation on Microchip microcontrollers and microprocessors, streamlines the coding process. (oe)
