BlackBerry QNX has introduced an enhancement to its QNX OS for Safety: a new POSIX-compliant file system designed specifically for safety-critical applications. This „QNX Filesystem for Safety“ (QFS) offers automotive manufacturers and embedded software developers additional security by verifying the integrity of file system contents during runtime.

The QFS enables developers to detect whether files are corrupted or incorrectly configured and ensures that necessary measures are taken to maintain system security. For example, a file that controls safety-relevant functions such as collision avoidance could lead to potentially dangerous situations if damaged. QFS protects against such risks by validating all safety-critical data and parameters.

The certified operating system and software stack shortens development time, reduces costs and ensures that safety remains guaranteed throughout the entire life cycle of a vehicle – from development to production. The QNX Filesystem for Safety 1.0 is already being used by leading automotive manufacturers and Tier 1 suppliers and is now available as part of QNX OS for Safety 2.2.3. (oe)
