Momenta Receives Nationwide L4 Testing Approval from the German KBA

Momenta, a Chinese provider of autonomous driving technology, has received a testing permit from the Federal Motor Transport Authority (Kraftfahrtbundesamt – KBA) for Level 4 automated vehicles. This will allow the company to test its robotaxi technology on public roads in urban areas throughout Germany in the future, without being limited to specific cities or routes. The permit represents an important milestone for the validation of highly automated driving functions under real-world traffic conditions. The KBA publishes issued testing permits in a publicly accessible list that is updated regularly.

The approval supports Momenta’s strategy to advance autonomous mobility services in Europe. The company had previously announced that it would conduct Level 4 test drives in Munich in partnership with Uber starting in 2026 and subsequently expand the technology to other European cities. With this nationwide approval, Momenta joins the ranks of companies using Germany as a development hub for autonomous driving. The company has European offices in Böblingen and Munich and collaborates with Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and the Volkswagen Group, among others. The goal is to further validate its own AI-based Level 4 platform under real-world traffic conditions and pave the way for the future commercial deployment of autonomous mobility services. (oe)
